Tours

Prestonpans Battlefield is a fascinating and complex landscape to explore. We have been working hard to improve access, signage and interpretation to help you get the most out of your visit. You can explore the battlefield yourself using our free mobile app or leaflet, or you can book a special guided tour.

COVID-19: Unfortunately we are currently unable to offer guided walking tours, but we hope to be able to offer this service again very soon.

GUIDED TOURS:

We love sharing the history of this fascinating battle with you, and there’s no better way than by exploring the site together. We organise a number of public walking tours each year, usually advertised on our Facebook page. The tours usually last approximately 2h30mins.

We occasionally offer special tours too, such as the Battlefield by Night tour which has taken place as part of the Saltire Festival in recent years. Keep an eye on our event listings for any upcoming walks.

We are also able to provide group tours by request (contact us for availability and costs), and are especially happy to offer tours for school groups (complete with historically costumed guide!).

For those of you further afield or unable to manage the long walk, we also periodically hold online battlefield explorations via Zoom.

We are hoping to expand the number of tours we are able to offer during the year. If you are interested in becoming one of our amazing volunteer guides, then we would love to hear from you. No previous experience necessary – just a personable manner and a passion for history! Click here for more info.

SELF-GUIDED TOURS:

Download our free mobile app, available for Apple and Android devices. The app’s map will help you find your way to the key locations, providing information and multimedia content as you explore. You can also view the whole Prestonpans Tapestry, and explore the 1722 Waggonway Trail as well. QR codes for downloading the app can be found on signage around the battlefield area.
