275 for Adults

VICTORY, HOPE & AMBITION“: A creative project celebrating the cultural legacy of The ‘45 in 2020.

The Jacobite Rising of 1745 has fascinated, moved and inspired people all around the world for 275 years. The Battle of Prestonpans, an unexpected triumph by the untested Highland army over professional Redcoat forces, triggered a particularly rich and diverse cultural legacy which continues to this day. In this context, we believe the creation of new work is just as important as the presentation of the past. So to celebrate 275 years of creativity we are calling on young people from around the country to contribute to the telling of this amazing story.

WHAT WE WANT TO DO:

We are looking for new contributions to the cultural legacy of the Jacobite Rising of 1745 and the Battle of Prestonpans. This is a great chance to show of your talents, whether you are most comfortable with the pen or the paint brush! There is a young persons (7-17) category, and by request we are also opening one for adults too. That’s anyone from the age of 18 onwards.

The most imaginative, inspiring and creative entries will be published in a special book marking the 275th anniversary of the rising– a great opportunity to see you work in print! We are also planning a special event to celebrate your creativity in 2021, and hope we can publish all entries on our website too.

There are two categories adults can enter:

  1. Poetry – any form of verse writing, written in either English, Scots or Gaelic, including song.
  2. Short Story – max 500 words
  3. Visual art – could be a painting or drawing, textile art or even sculpture.

Entries should reflect one of the following themes:

  1. The Prince has landed
  2. A Call to Arms
  3. On the March
  4. Battle
  5. Victory or Defeat
  6. Looking back

Gaelic language entries should be accompanied by English translations if possible please.

Entries should not reference modern political viewpoints or include language or comments which could cause offence.

We want as many people as possible to get involved! You have until 31 March 2021 to complete and submit your entries.

Tha Aramach nan Seumasach ann an 1745 air daoine bho air feadh an t-saoghail a bheò-ghlacadh, a ghluasad agus a bhrosnachadh airson 275 bliadhna. Phiobraich Blàr Sliabh a’ Chlamhain, a bha na bhuaidh ris nach robh dùil leis an fheachd Ghàidhealach thairis air feachdan proifeiseanta nan còtaichean dearga, dìleab chultarach gu h-àraidh saidhbhir agus eadar-mheasgte a tha a’ leantainn chun an latha an-diugh. Sa cho-theacsa seo, tha sinn a’ creidsinn gu bheil cruthachadh air obair ùr a cheart cho cudromach ris an riochdachadh bhon àm a dh’fhalbh. Mar sin, gus 275 bliadhna de chruthachalachd a chomharrachadh, tha sinn ag iarraidh air daoine òga bho air feadh na dùthcha cur ris an innse air an sgeul iongantach seo.

  2. Ealain lèirsinneach – dealbh air a peantadh no air a tarraing, no ealain aodaich (nì sam bith a tha 2D agus cruthachail!)

Bu chòir do na h-innteartan aon de na tèaman a leanas, a nochdadh:

  1. Tha am Prìonnsa air a thighinn air tìr
  2. Gairm gu Armachd
  3. A’ Caismeachd
